Graduation Competencies

Graduation requirements for an AAS degreee from San Antonio College include the following:

These are exit competencies required by the college before receiving an associate degree (AAS).  All courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.

(1)  Written Communication Competency:

  • ENGL 1301 Freshman Composition I
  • ENGL 1302 Freshman Composition II

(2)  Oral Communication Competency:  (Speech Intensive Classes)

  • RNSG 2207 Transition to Nursing Practice
  • RNSG 2221  Management of Client Care

(3)  Mathematical Skill Competency

  • THEA mathematic score of 250 or higher; or Accuplacer AE score of 76, or
  • Successful completion of three (3) hours of college-level mathematics (MATH 1314, MATH 1332, or equivalent) or any math for which Math 1314 or Math 1332 is a prerequisite (except Math 1350 and Math 1351) .
(4)  Computer Competency:

A student may choose between the following options:

  • Successfully complete, with a grade of "C" or better, either ITSC 1301 or COSC 1301 (Computer Literacy) or equivalent.
  • Successfully complete with a grade of "C" or better any course identified as a Computer-dedicated course.
  • Successfully complete with a grade of "C" or better six (6) semester hours of Computer Intensive (CI) courses.
  • Successfully complete the "Computer Competency Challenge Exam" offered by the Assessment Center.
Reminder:  It is the student's responsibility to apply for graduation from the college.  Graduation applications are accepted after the completion of 30 college level hours.  The deadline to submit an application to Admissions and Records is October 1 for December graduation, February 1 for May graduation and July 1 for August graduation.  The nursing student during the third semester should review the transcripts for compliance with graduation requirements so that you will have time to correct any deficiencies by the expected graduation date.
