Students
are expected to know and observe the ACCD “Student Code of Conduct” and
Department of Nursing Education (DNE) policies concerning conduct and discipline.
Dismissal
of a student currently enrolled in the San Antonio College Department
of Nursing Education results in the formal termination and severance
of the relationship between the student and the program. Therefore,
a nursing student who violates the Student Code of Conduct is subject
to these rules.
A student
enrolled in the SAC Department of Nursing Education program can be dismissed
from the program based on failure to maintain:
- Academic
standards
- Acceptable
student conduct.
An instructor
can file a grievance against any student demonstrating academic dishonesty.
Academic Dismissal
Automatic
academic dismissal from SAC DNE will occur in any of the following circumstances:
- A student
who accumulates more than ten (10) nursing course credit hours of interruption
as defined in the readmission policy.
- A student
who withdraws three (3) times from the same nursing course.
- A student
who fails the same nursing course twice (less than a grade of C).
- Any combination
of three interuptions in the same nursing course will result in a dismissal
from the nursing program.
An accademically
dismissed Nursing Student (Generic or Career Mobility) is not eligible
for re-entry into the Nursing Program at San Antonio College.

A
student may not appeal an academic dismissal.

Student Conduct
Dismissal
A student
may be subject to dismissal when in the judgment of the faculty, the good
of the client, or of SAC, or the public welfare is threatened. No
student shall be dismissed except for cause and after being given an opportunity
to be heard by the Admissions and Standards committee. The grounds
for dismissal include, but are not limited to, the following demonstrable
behavior(s) contrary to those taught within the curricula and contrary
to generally accepted ethical and professional nursing standards.
- Lack
of evidenced professional character indicators (integrated pattern of
personal, academic and occupational behaviors that an individual is
unable to consistently conform his/her conduct to the requirements of
the Nursing Practice Act, the State Board of Nursing Rules and Regulations
and generally accepted standards of nursing practice including, but
not limited to behaviors of honesty, accountability, trustworthiness,
reliability, and integrity).
- A pattern
of neglect of clinical responsibilities or failure to act in the best
interest of clients and the public in any practice setting.
- Consistent
evidence of a lack of caring behaviors in interactions and administration
of therapeutic modalities across any practice setting.
- Violating
the Student Code of Conduct published by San Antonio College.
