Expectations For Students

Nursing students are expected to:

  • use recommended learning activities to prepare for class and clinical.
  • be interactive in the learning process.
  • identify their own specific class/clinical learning needs.
  • contribute to learning based on their diverse backgrounds.
  • devote full attention to learning and practice opportunities in class and clinical:
    • cell phones off.
    • maintain classroom / clinical decorum.
    • respect peers' participation in the learning process.

Current Address and Phone Number

It is IMPERATIVE the student informs the Department’s administrative assistant of changes in address and phone number in writing: (name, SS#, changes).  This is essential to reach the student if an emergency arises, for a change is scheduling or for any other communication necessary within the department.

Nursing Student Employment Policy

The nursing faculty recognizes that it is sometimes necessary for students to work.  Therefore, the Department of Nursing Education issues the following:

  • It is highly recommended that nursing students work no more than twenty (20) hours per week while registered in nursing courses.
  • Scholastic standards must be maintained and course requirements met during periods of employment.

The performance of the student when working for remuneration is the legal responsibility of the employing agency and the individual student. 

    Note: When employed, the nursing student will NOT wear the San Antonio College Nursing badge or name pin as a work uniform during the course of employment.

Students as Committee Members

The bylaws of the Nursing Faculty Association allows for student representation on certain committees in the Department of Nursing Education's Faculty Association.  Watch the bulletin boards for information regarding selection of the student representatives.

Advisement and Registration for the next semester

The student will make an appointment with his/her advisor during the advisement period. This is necessary for the student to enroll in the next semester. [An advisement hold is placed on the student's record and he/she will not be allowed to register for nursing courses until the advisement hold is removed.]
