Catalog Description: This course provides intermediate level volleyball skills with an emphasis on offensive and defensive systems of play. Emphasis will be placed on team play and applying the rules of the game. |

Instruction will consist of: Lecture in relation to rules of volleyball and proper techniques used in basic skills. Reading assignments in text and related materials. Demonstration and participation in drills for enhancing volleyball skills, game skills, and incorporate physical conditioning. Videotapes used for proper skill technique demonstrations. |

Learning Outcomes and Performances Objectives with their methods of measurements as used to determine the students’ mastery of those outcomes. Learning Outcome 1: Develop intermediate skills; learn the rules of the game, set-up and break-down net standards. Students will have the opportunity to learn and utilize officiating skill techniques. Performance Objectives / Method(s) of measurement for each objective: 1. The student will ability to execute the following skills; forearm pass, overhead serve, overhead pass, set, attack, dig, spike, and block using proper form through daily participation in class and a skills assessment exam given at the end of the semester. 2.

Students will be able to combine skills, the offenses, and the defenses into a game situation by completing a written examination(s) and daily participation in class. |

Course requirements and grade computation. |

A. |
College Requirements: A written, comprehensive final examination, not to exceed three hours in length, shall be given at the end of each semester for each course at the regular scheduled time. Any exceptions to these requirements must be approved by the appropriate dean. Other examinations are given at the discretion of the instructor. A student who must be absent from the final examination should petition that instructor for permission to postpone the examination. A student absent without permission from a final examination is graded “F.” Postponed examinations result in a grade of “I.” The final exam must be taken within 120 calendar days from the end of the semester or the grade automatically becomes an “F.” (San Antonio College Bulletin, Faculty Handbook – January 1995) |
