KINESIOLOGY For the student planning to enter the field of Kinesiology, San Antonio College offers the first two years towards a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education. The physical education major is trained to enter the field in a variety of ways such as teaching physical education, coaching sports, athletic training, or being involved in the private fitness industry. State law requires that teachers in public schools be certified. Certifications include all level, K-12; elementary, K-8; and secondary, 6-12. Coaching sports in middle schools could include: football, basketball, track, golf, tennis, soccer, and volleyball. At the high school level, coaching would include the same sports as in middle schools in addition to swimming, water polo, baseball, softball, gymnastics, wrestling, and power lifting. While at San Antonio College, a student will be able to take a variety of Physical Education activity courses which will add to your expertise. Two theory classes, Foundations of Physical Education and First Aid will in most cases transfer. Additionally, there is a Physical Education Majors Club which will add to your experience and knowledge. Listed below is a core curriculum which leads to an Associate of Science or an Associate of Arts degree. The specific courses for the core curriculum are listed in the San Antonio College catalog. Consult a counselor or faculty member in the Kinesiology Department before enrolling in any courses. Students do not need to obtain an Associates' degree in order to transfer to a senior college. Generally, these courses will transfer to any senior college, however it is best to have a particular college in mind and coordinate your courses at San Antonio College with those of the senior college.
