SAC to Celebrate International Education Week

San Antonio College will celebrate International Education Week, Monday, Nov. 15 - Friday, Nov. 19, with a series of discussions, presentations and exhibits, which are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Jon Lee, Associate Professor of History, at 733-2565, or Suzanna Borawski, Coordinator of International Student Services, at 785-6057.


Schedule of Events:
All events, unless otherwise noted, will be held in the Visual Arts & Technologies Center, Room 120 (corner of Dewey and Lewis Streets).

Monday, Nov. 15:
2 p.m.
Coffee with visiting Fulbright Scholar Dr. Gulnara Oiratovna Abikeyeva -
A native of Almaty, Kazakhstan, Dr. Abikeyeva is a journalist with Megalopolis Newspaper and an author of The Heart of the World: Films from Central Asia.

Tuesday, Nov. 16:
9:30 a.m.
The 27th Annual Edith Fox King Lecture, presenting photojournalist David Leeson, who with Cheryl Diaz Meyer won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for their photographs of the war in Iraq.

Wednesday, Nov. 17:
10 a.m. -2 p.m.
International Student Exposition (Loftin Student Center, Fiesta Room)

10 - 11:45 a.m.
" Global Economic and Community Building," a youth dialogue with international students from Belgium, South Africa, Mexico, and Germany, who will discuss issues related to economic and community building strategies in their countries. Special guests will include students from Lanier High School. (The International Student Association, Public Administration Club, and Students in Free Enterprise organizations are sponsors of this event.)

3 - 4:15 p.m. - Presentations on Internet Mapping:
" Bringing Internet Mapping to the Humanities," Dr. Richard E. W. Adams, Ashbel Smith Professor of Anthropology, UTSA

"Mapping the Mayan World: Civilization to Collapse, What Happened?" Dr. Donald N. Clark, Professor of History and Director of International programs, Trinity University

"Bringing the World into the Classroom with GIS Maps," Dr. Carol Keller, Assistant Professor of History, San Antonio College.

Friday, Nov. 19
10 a.m. - noon
" Advice to the U.S. President from International Students," a presentation by the San Antonio College International Students' Association
