Pulitzer Prize-winning Author James M. McPherson, who is also a professor of American History at Princeton University, will speak about his writing career that focuses mostly on the American Civil War and Reconstruction.
His 14 books and numerous periodical writings include ³Battle Cry of
Freedom: The Civil War Era,² which won a Pulitzer Prize in 1989, ³For Cause and Comrades,² which won the Lincoln Prize in 1998, and The Past in the
Present: Why I Became a Civil War Historian (published in Dec. 1998
³Perspectives²)

BIO SKETCH:
McPherson is a George Henry Davis '86 Professor of American History at Princeton University, where he has taught since 1962. He received his Ph.D.
in 1963 from Johns Hopkins University, where he studied with C. Vann Woodward. In addition to serving as president of the American Historical Association, he has been president of Protect Historic America, and the Society of American Historians. Currently, he is working on a book about the navies in the Civil War. |
