SAC Music Faculty Win ASCAPLUS Awards

San Antonio College Associate Professor of Music Alice Gomez and Music Instructor Jerome Malek have received the 2006-2007 ASCAPLUS Award - Concert Music Division from the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers.

According to Marilyn Bergman, President and Chairman of the Board, "These awards reflect our continuing commitment to assist and encourage ASCAP composers.  Awards are granted by an independent Panel and are based upon the unique prestige value of each writer's catalog of original compositions, as well as recent performances in areas not surveyed by the Society."

The Concert Music Division areas include symphonic, chamber, operatic, choral, electronic, liturgical, educational, solo vocal and instrumental.  The members of the Concert Music Division panel for the ASCAPLUS Awards are Judith Clurman, director of choral activities at The Juilliard School, H. Robert Reynolds, professor emeritus at the University of Michigan, and Steve Smith, classical music editor for Time Out New York.
