San Antonio College faculty Dr. Tom Manzo, ESL/foreign languages, and Dr. Carol Keller, history, have both received Fulbright awards that will take them to South America.
Dr. Manzo received a five-month Fulbright Teacher Exchange grant to teach English as a Foreign Language in Argentina at the Universidad Nacional de San Juan, and Maria Rosa Marcovechio from that college will teach Spanish one semester at San Antonio College. Manzo is one of 170 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad in 2006-2007 through the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program, which has the purpose of building mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and the rest of the world.
Dr. Keller will participate in the 2006 Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program titled "Argentina and Uruguay: From Colonialism to the Future," in order to learn the society and cultural heritage of a region historically and geographically similar to our own. She is working closely with Dr. Dean Lambert, earth sciences, to develop a web-based Geographic Information Systems curriculum module "Mapping Argentina and Uruguay Across Time and Space" for use by faculty and students.
