SAC Receives Learn & Serve Grant

San Antonio College is the only two- or four-year college in Texas to receive a Learn and Serve America Grant from the Corporation for National & Community Service.  The grant is valued at $85,310 per year for three years.

"We are very pleased to receive this grant, which will increase the opportunities for students to complement their academic learning with relevant, hands-on community experiences," said Audrey Grams, Coordinator of the San Antonio College Service-Learning Program.

She added that the grant will be used to fund faculty curriculum development mini-grants, departmental incentives, a department secretary, and some operational expenses.

The Learn and Serve America grants are designed to engage more than one million students nationwide in service-learning projects at schools, colleges, and community-based organizations.

"Service-learning helps America pursue some of its most critical goals, from improving academic achievement to helping youth from disadvantaged circumstances succeed in school and in life," said David Eisner, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

The San Antonio College Service-Learning Program facilitates opportunities for faculty to involve their students in community activities that are relevant to their classroom learning objectives.
