Yvonne Lozano, instructor of gerontology and sociology at San Antonio College, is one of five people who received the Eighth Annual Phoenix Award on Oct. 25 from the P.E.A.C.E. Initiative, in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The initiative is a coalition of public and private institutions, grassroots organizations and individuals working together to end family violence. The Phoenix Award is given to individuals in the community "who have endeavored to work to change the consuming effects of domestic violence," according to Cyndi Jahn, organization representative.
In addition to Lozano, other honorees included Adrian Segura, Alfred Martinez (SAPD), Mary Agnes Rodriguez, and Sr. Yolanda Tarango (CCVI).
