In the June 2006 issue of Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, the San Antonio College Nursing Education program is ranked third in the nation in the graduation of Hispanics, based on U.S. Department of Education statistics.
In 2005, San Antonio College graduated 113 Hispanic nurses out of 285 total nursing graduates. The number one ranking for 2005 goes to Miami Dade College, graduating 182 Hispanics out of 406 total nursing graduates, and the number two ranking goes to Florida International University, with 126 Hispanic graduates out of 285 total nursing graduates (the same total graduates as San Antonio College).
According to the accompanying article, "Last year, the U.S. Department of Labor identified registered nursing as the top occupation in terms of job growth through the year 2012. According to the latest projections from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than one million new and replacement nurses will be needed by 2012."
The SAC Nursing Education program, which has trained students for a career in nursing for 39 years, has been ranked as "Exemplary" in its standards and practices by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
