Commissioner Paredes to Speak at SAC

Dr. Raymund A. Paredes, Commissioner of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, will give a "Status Report on Closing the Gaps" on Wednesday, March 22, at 10:15 a.m. in McAllister Auditorium (at the corner of Courtland Place and San Pedro Ave.).  The event is free and open to the public.

"Closing the Gaps" is an initiative of the Coordinating Board that includes dramatically increasing the number of college graduates, particularly among minority groups, by the year 2015.

Prior to coming to the Coordinating Board, Dr. Paredes was Vice President for Programs at the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, where he was responsible for scholarship and outreach programs.  Previously, he was Director of Creativity and Culture at The Rockefeller Foundation and Associate Vice Chancellor-Academic Development at UCLA, where he also had been a professor of English since 1973.  At UCLA, he oversaw outreach efforts to the K-12 and community college sectors.
