For the second time in its history, the San Antonio College student Beta Nu Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society was awarded a "Texas Top Chapter" at the organization's regional convention this month in Austin. This award is given to the best 15 chapters, out of more than 100 in the state, for exemplifying excellence in scholarship, service and leadership.
The chapter also received the "Five Star Status" Award, which is only given to extremely active chapters and is the highest award a chapter can receive, and the "Chapter of Service" Award for its many service projects advocating and fundraising on behalf of the American Cancer Society.
In other recognitions, Beta Nu President Pedro Ledezma was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Hall of Honor for Outstanding Members/Officers. Advisor Susan Spencer received a "Horizon Advisor" Award, presented to new outstanding advisors. In addition, Advisor Jeff Hunt was inducted into the "Advisor's Hall of Honor" for the state of Texas - given to advisors who, according to Hunt, have served longer than five years and have made "significant contributions to the success of their chapter and the state of Texas."
