SAC Offers Scholarships for Travis Students

San Antonio College officials have announced that a $500 scholarship will be offered to any student who completes the 5th grade at Travis Elementary School, beginning with the spring 2006 5th grade graduates, and who later meets criteria for completing their high school education before enrolling at San Antonio College.

Criteria for the scholarship state that after completing the 5th grade at Travis, students must complete their high school education in the San Antonio Independent School District, maintain a 75 percent average and 95 percent attendance in high school, and enroll at San Antonio College for a minimum of nine hours after completing high school.
"San Antonio College has had a long-standing relationship with our neighbor Travis Elementary School," said Dr. Zeigler.  He added, "We see as part of our community responsibility the importance of encouraging young people to continue their education, graduate from high school, and then complete their college education.  This not only improves their own personal lives with higher incomes and greater satisfaction, but it improves the quality of the entire community."
The scholarship agreement must be reaffirmed by the San Antonio College administration each year prior to issuing certificates to the fifth grade graduating class.  The scholarship will be funded by interest from the San Antonio College endowment fund or other available resources.
