(San Antonio, TX, April 17, 2007) - Featuring some of the city's youngest artists, the "Picture the Future" art exhibit will be on display April 19-26 at the San Antonio College Early Childhood Center located at 210 W. Ashby Place.
Organized by the advocacy group Voices for Children of San Antonio in collaboration with SAC, the San Antonio Association for the Education of Young Children and UTSA, where it opened today, the exhibit features 90 drawings from three- and four-year-olds enrolled at SAC's Early Childhood Center, UTSA's Childcare Center and local Parent-Child, Inc. affiliates.
Artwork reflects, "What I want to be when I grow up" and shows that young children see no barriers to becoming doctors, lawyers, teachers or whatever they dream. Coinciding with Week of the Young Child, a national observance (April 22-29) that celebrates the importance of a child's early years in achieving future success, organizers hope that the exhibit will enlist local community support to help children fulfill their dreams.
Following its display at SAC, the exhibit will travel to Palo Alto College's PACfest on April 26, and then the PAC Early Childhood Center, Apr. 30 - May 4.
Research shows that young children who participate in quality programs early in life have better chances to be successful later in life - they are less likely to drop out of high school, are more likely to attend college, and have the capacity to earn higher incomes. Hence, Voices for Children is dedicated to helping children achieve their dreams through a variety of early education settings.
