SAC Commencement Is Set for May 10

San Antonio College will hold its 79th Annual Commencement Exercise on Thursday, May 10, at 7 p.m. in the Freeman Coliseum.  Dr. Robert E. Zeigler, President, will preside.

More than 800 students will graduate from San Antonio College, which offers Associate's Degrees in the Arts and Sciences and Applied Sciences, as well as scores of certificates.

Speakers will include Ward Allen White III, an Assistant District Attorney, Civil Division, in the Office of the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney and San Antonio College's Outstanding Former Student for 2006-2007.  White is believed to be the first full-time African-American student to attend San Antonio College, registering in September 1955.  He went on to earn his B.A., cum laude, from Huston-Tillotson College, his M.S. from Southern Connecticut State University, and his J.D. from Yale Law School.

White has served as Assistant Attorney General of Texas, Associate General Counsel to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit, and the Governor's Legislative Staff for the Hon. Mark White.  He is licensed to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Texas, as well as other state and federal courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th and 11th Circuits.

In addition, Brittney Knouse will speak on behalf of the student body.  A 2002 graduate of James Madison High School, she is the first member of her immediate family to receive a college degree.  She received scholarships from the Theatre and Speech Communication Department and grade-based Texas grants, and her current GPA is 3.76.  She is a member of the SAC Speech Team and was awarded Texas State Champion and Regional Champion in Communication Analysis and Informative Speaking.  An anthropology major, Knouse plans to transfer to the University of Texas at San Antonio in the fall and eventually work in physical anthropology with a focus on primates or forensic science.

Other speakers will be Dr. Bruce H. Leslie, Chancellor of the Alamo Community Colleges, and a representative of the Alamo Community Colleges' Board of Trustees.  Platform guests will include Dr. Richard Drum, Interim Vice Chancellor for Administration; Dr. Federico Zaragosa, District Vice Chancellor for Professional, Technical and Workforce Education; and Dr. Eric Reno, President of Northeast Lakeview College.  Other participants will include the San Antonio College Brass Ensemble, San Antonio College Army ROTC Honor Guard, and the San Antonio College Sign Choir.
