SAC Court Reporting Offers Information Session
The San Antonio College Administrative Computer Technology Department will offer an Information Session on "Court Reporting as a Career," especially designed for students who may be interested in pursuing this field.  The session will take place at San Antonio College on Tuesday, December 4, 6:15 - 8 p.m. in the Nail Technical Center, Room 019.

"This will be an opportunity to meet the faculty, talk with other Court Reporting students, hear Court Reporting professionals speak, and see a stenograph demonstration," said Connianne Pugh, Chairperson of Administrative Computer Technology.

A court reporter makes a verbatim record of legal proceedings in a courtroom or deposition setting and provides a certified transcript for use by the legal profession.  Conferences also may be reported and transcribed.

"Texas state law requires that shorthand reporters be certified to work in the courts or as freelance reporters, while those not certified may work in business, civil service, or medical transcription using machine shorthand skills.  Those with excellent machine shorthand skills may caption for television or write real-time for the hearing impaired," said Pugh.

The Court Reporting Program offers an Associate in Applied Science degree in Computer-Aided Transcription and two technical certificates - a one-year certificate in Rapid Text Entry and a two-year certificate in Court Reporting.  The program provides students with the proficiencies to pass the certification examination administered by the Court Reporter Certification Board of Texas and the Registered Professional Reporter examination administered by the National Court Reporters Association.
