SAC Offers Certification as Dietetic Food Supervisor |
Anyone interested in pursuing a food service supervisory job in hospitals, nursing homes, or a growing number of other institutions can now earn a Dietetic Food Supervisor Certificate at San Antonio College.
"Dietetic Food Supervisors play a key role in food service operations where special dietary needs must be met," said Steven F. Lewis, Coordinator of the Service, Trade and Industry Center in SAC's Continuing Education Training Network.
He added that people who complete the initial 99-hour course and 120-hour practicum have an edge in the job market. The course, which prepares students to supervise institutional kitchens under the management of a Registered Dietitian, will meet starting October 22, 6 - 9 p.m., on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
"Most trainees work in the food industry during the day and study at night," said Lewis, adding, "We capitalize on that by assigning them practical on-the-job activities that reinforce the course material."
In addition, the Center offers the mandatory 15-hour Food Manager Certification course and soon the 2-hour Food Handlers course that will be required by the Municipal Sanitation Department at the close of 2008.
