SAC Celebrates Distance Education Week Nov. 14:

WHAT:
* San Antonio College will celebrate National Distance Education Week by highlighting the college's pioneering role in Internet education.
* The event will feature comments by President Robert Zeigler, followed by a City of San Antonio proclamation presented by Councilwoman Mary Alice Cisneros and a special video presentation. Breakfast will be served following the commemoration.
WHY:
* San Antonio College government professors James Perkins and Dr. Michael Berrier offered the first online course in San Antonio in the spring of 1996.
* At that time, then Vice President Zeigler decided to expand access to students through the Internet.
* In 2006, SAC Online, administered by Director of Distance Education Helen Torres, was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the 6th largest online program in the United States.
* SAC Online generates more than 21,000 student enrollments annually, including 500 out of state each semester and 100 out of the country (China, Korea, Turkey, United Kingdom, India, and others) every semester. WHEN/ WHERE:
