Revised - SAC Celebrates Hispanic Heritage

The San Antonio College community will celebrate Hispanic Heritage September 17 to October 17, with a series of talks, films, dance and musical performances.  All events are free and open to the public and will be held at San Antonio College, 1300 San Pedro Ave.  For more information, contact Hispanic Heritage Committee Co-Chairs Rosa Maria Gonzalez (gonzalez@accd.edu or 733-2984) or Patricia Portales (pportale@accd.edu or 733-2519).

One of the featured speakers is Michele Serros, the author of the young adult novel "Scandalosa!" a sequel to "Honey Blonde Chica."  Appearing at San Antonio College on September 19, Serros was named as one of Newsweek's "Women to Watch for the New Century.  A former writer for "The George Lopez Show" and author of "Chicana Falsa" and "How to be a Chicana Role Model," Serros lectures throughout the country at high schools and youth groups.  She lives in California.

Note:  VATC refers to the Visual Arts & Technology Center, which is located at San Antonio College at the corner of Dewey and Lewis streets.  The Loftin Student Center is located due south of the corner of Dewey and Belknap streets.

10 - 10:50 a.m.:  "Mexican Independence:  Relevance for Today" - Dr. Gilberto Hinojosa, Professor of History, University of the Incarnate Word.  Dr. Hinojosa has researched and written extensively about the culture and history of Mexican and Spanish influence in Texas. (VATC, Room 120)
