"Howl at the Moon" at the SAC Observatory

San Antonio College's Scobee Planetarium and Observatory in conjunction with the San Antonio Astronomical Association will host a "Howl at the Moon" observing session on Saturday, November 17, 6 - 9 p.m., in the parking lot between the Candler Physical Education Center and the Observatory.

The Planetarium will not be open, but the public may view the night sky at the San Antonio College Observatory as well as through a dozen telescopes made available by the San Antonio Astronomical Association.

"The First Quarter Moon will be the highlight of the session with close-up views of the craters, mountains and plains," said Bryan Snow, Planetarium Coordinator.

He added, "These are some of the best sights that you can see through a telescope.  In the early evening the planet Jupiter will be glimpsed low in the southwest, and as the evening continues the Pleiades star cluster will rise above the buildings to the east.  Telescopes will also target Comet Holmes, currently in our evening sky, if it continues to remain bright."

People of all ages are invited to use the SAC Observatory telescope and the telescopes of the San Antonio Astronomical Association, but observations will be weather dependent.  If it is cloudy or raining, the session will be cancelled.
