SAC Professor Lee Appointed by Governor
to Commission to Improve College Readiness
Dr. Jonathan Lee, Associate Professor of History at San Antonio College, has been appointed by Governor Rick Perry to serve on the Commission for a College Ready Texas.  The purpose of the commission is to provide leadership and guidance to the State Board of Education to improve college readiness programs by aligning high school curriculum with college standards.

Lee is one of eight co-chairs who will oversee four subject-specific teams and is the only co-chair representing community colleges.

According to the Governor's office, the Commission will hold public meetings from April through fall 2007 to assist in making recommendations to the State Board of Education, "which has the authority to adopt, align and define college-readiness standards for Texas."

The Texas Education Agency announced the first meeting for April 23 at 11:15 a.m. at the Thompson Conference Center, Room 1.110, on the University of Texas campus at 2405 Robert Dedman Dr.  The meeting is open to the public, but public testimony will not be taken at the first meeting.  Commissioner of Education Dr. Shirley J. Neeley and Dr. Raymund Paredes, Commissioner of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, will provide comments, along with a panel of experts from across the nation.

For more information, contact Dr. Jonathan Lee at 733-2565 or the Texas Education Agency at 512-463-9734.
