SAC to Host 3,600 Eighth Grade SAISD Students

| WHAT: San Antonio College will host 3,600 SAISD 8th grade students over a three-day period (1,200 students each day), so they can explore career opportunities by learning about some of SAC¹s many academic programs. Each student will choose three "Career Exploration Modules" from a total of 36 to explore. Faculty in each area will make 45-minute presentations. The summit is a part of Achieve Texas, a statewide initiative to help prepare students for secondary and post-secondary education, job/career preparation and advancement, and meaningful work and active citizenship. This event is held in conjunction with the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) and Alamo Region Tech Prep Consortium. WHEN: Monday - Wednesday, December 17 - 19 10 a.m. 12:45 p.m. (each day) The 45-minute presentations begin at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 Noon in a variety of buildings and classrooms throughout the college campus. WHERE: San Antonio College 1300 San Pedro Ave., San Antonio, TX 78212 Various room locations on the college campus WHO/AGENDA: Each day for three days, faculty will facilitate 30 career exploration modules for 1,200 SAISD 8th grade students (for a total of 3,600 students over the three days) SAC faculty will facilitate 30 career exploration modules, and SAISD high school faculty will facilitate 9 modules for the following programs not offered at SAC: Agricultural Science, Transportation, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Fashion Design, Interior Design, Nutrition & Food, Respiratory Therapy, and JROTC MODULES: The students may choose from three of the following Career Exploration Modules: Criminal Justice (Forensics) Emergency Medical Services Fire Science Astronomy CAD Electronics Occupational Safety and Health Physics & Engineering Interpreter Training Dental Assisting Medical Assisting Mortuary Science Nursing Kinesiology Architecture Education Early Childhood Studies Journalism/Photography Music; Radio, TV & Film Drama Fine Arts Visual Arts Business Administration Computer Technology Court Reporting Paralegal Studies Accounting Computer Information Systems Banking & Finance High School Agricultural Science High School Transportation High School Cosmetology High School Culinary Arts High School Fashion Design High School Interior Design High School Nutrition & Food High School Respiratory Therapy High School JROTC CONTACT: For more information, call Manuel Flores, Director of Enrollment Management, at 210-733-2751. |
