The San Antonio College Early Childhood Center is celebrating the National Week of the Young Child (NAEYC) this week with a series of activities highlighting the importance of the education of young children.  This national week is dedicated to improving the quality of Early Childhood Education for all young children and their families.  The week's schedule follows.  Events take place in the San Antonio College Early Childhood Center (corner of Ashby and Howard).  For more information, call 733-2409.

April 23-27: 
Milagro Wall Project:
Parents are encouraged to create a special symbol with a  message of their hopes and dreams for their children.  The Milagros will be hung in the front lobby this week.

TV Turn-Off Week:
The average child watches three hours of TV a day.  This week families are encourages to go for a walk, read books together and play games.

April 23:
Parent Appreciation Day:
8-10 a.m. - (room 107) Invitation to have breakfast treats in appreciation of parents.
3 p.m. - H.E. Buddy will visit on the playground.

April 24:
Wear or Make a Hat Day:
Children can wear a hat from home and/or make one in the classroom.  The San Antonio Fire Department will visit and have a demonstration at 10:30 a.m. on the playground.

April 25:
Teacher/Administrator/Grandparent Appreciation Day:
Write a special note of appreciation to your child's caregivers.  A table with supplies will be in the lobby.  Write down the message and tape it on the tree in the lobby.

Bring Your Child's Favorite Book to School Day:
To underscore the importance of literacy, bring your child's favorite book to share with his/her class.

April 26:
Visiting Reader, Mary Zeigler:  Mary Zeigler will read a book to the children.

Spirit Day Parade and Fiesta:
2:15 p.m. - The Norma Ziegler Scholarship Award Ceremony will be held on the playground.  The scholarship will be awarded to an Early Childhood student.

2:15-4:15 p.m. - Join in a sidewalk parade around the center.  Each class will wear a designated T-shirt color.  The parade begins at 2:45 p.m.  Families are encouraged to attend this event and wear the class color in the Parade and Fiesta on the playground.  (Class colors are:  Room 011, Green; Room 008, Orange; Room 013, Blue; Room 110, Purple; Room 113, Red; Room 115, White; Room 116, Yellow).

Activities will include face painting, making cascarones, making ice cream sundaes, a mural, music, dancing and more.
