SAC's Celebration of Hispanic Heritage - Second Week

WHAT:
* San Antonio College's celebration of Hispanic Heritage will continue into its second week, featuring dance and musical performances (including Travis Elementary's Ballet Folklorico and musical groups Los Inocentes and Sexto Sol), two screenings of the film "Walkout" directed by Edward James Olmos, an  Antojitos Festival Low Rider Show, and a talk on Monday by George Farias on "Hispanic Roots:  Getting Started with Genealogy," and a talk on Wednesday by Dr. Gilberto Hinojosa on "Mexican Independence:  Relevance for Today."


Monday, September 24: 
11 - 11:50 a.m.:  Hispanic Roots:  Getting Started with Genealogy - George Farias (VATC, Room 120) 
Noon - 1 p.m.:  Travis Elementary Ballet Folklorico (Loftin Student Center Mall Area)

Tuesday, September 25:
12:15 p.m.:  Film "Walkout," Directed by Edward James Olmos:  the film is the true story of an East L.A. school walkout.

Wednesday, September 26:
9 - 10 a.m.: Los Inocentes - Musical voyage through culture and history with performance of songs from Spain, Mexico, El Caribe and South America. (VATC, Room 120).
9 - 1 p.m.: Antojitos Festival - Low Rider Show (Loftin Student Center Mall Area)
10 - 10:50 a.m.:  "Mexican Independence:  Relevance for Today" - Dr. Gilberto Hinojosa, Professor of History, University of the Incarnate Word.  Dr. Hinojosa has researched and written extensively about the culture and history of Mexican and Spanish influence in Texas.

Friday, September 28:
11 a.m. - 1 p.m.:  Sexto Sol - Tejano music performance - Sexto Sol (Loftin Student Center Mall Area)
4 p.m. - Deadline for Essay contest entries
Dusk:  Film "Walkout," second showing (Loftin Student Center Mall Area)
