Texas Film Commission Production Assistant (P.A.) Workshop

Teaches students to survive the production life, on set or in the office
May 17-18 at San Antonio College

WHAT
Taught by working industry professionals, and offered in cooperation with San Antonio College, the Texas Film Commission Production Assistant (P.A.) Workshop is a two-day, intensive introductory course teaching the jargon, terminology, paperwork, etiquette, processes and physical requirements of the job.

Saturday-Sunday, May 17-18, 2008
9 a.m. – 4 p.m. both days
(Arrive early – late attendees will not be admitted.)

San Antonio College

(The building is located on the north side of the college, on E. Courtland Pl. at N. Main St.)
 
WHO
To participate, students must:
•   Be 18 years of age or older
•   Be a legal resident of Texas
•   Have a valid Texas Driver’s License or Texas I.D. Card
•   Be legally eligible to work in the U.S.
•   Have basic math and reading skills (English)
•   Be physically up to the training – a P.A.’s job is challenging physically and requires very long hours (for example, a P.A. may be required to stand and move around an open air filming set for more than eight hours per day).

Two-day workshop cost: $60
Students must register in advance.

Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
and Fridays, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

ADD’L DETAILS
A Production Assistant (P.A.) is the film/video industry’s primary entry-level job, providing support to most production areas.  The course will also introduce related crafts such as camera loader, locations scout or grip/electrician, greens keeper, wardrobe or craft service.  During the workshop, students will meet and learn from crewmembers in all areas of production; conduct simulations of on-set work flow; and learn tips for a successful job search.
 
Upon completion and certification, students will be listed in the Texas Production Directory as having completed the TFC Texas Film Commission P.A. Workshop training. The directory is available at the Texas Film Commission’s website – www.texasfilmcommission.com. Completers will also be eligible for Texas Film Commission’s training in specialized production departments, including: Camera, Craft Service, Grip, Lighting, Locations, Props, Art/Set Construction, Sound, Video Assist and Wardrobe.
