BACKGROUND:
Spurlock’s “Super Size Me” examined the phenomenon of fast food and obesity in America, and became the sixth highest grossing box office documentary of all time; received an Oscar nomination, the Writers Guild of America Best Documentary Screenplay Award and Best Director prizes at the Edinburgh and the Sundance Film Festivals. The film made such an impact that McDonald’s restaurants dropped “super sizing” from its menu shortly after the movie premiered at Sundance.

Further, the Video Software Dealers Association voted the DVD Best Documentary of the Year in 2005, and an “educationally enhanced” version was released to help people understand how to make healthy choices.  His book “Don’t Eat This Book” picks up where the movie left off.

Spurlock also created the F/X reality television series “30 Days” that tackles timely issues such as homophobia, racial/religious prejudice, and living on minimum wage.  The series has been praised by critics and by such diverse groups as the Muslim Public Affairs Council, Gay and Lesbian Alliance for Anti-Defamation, and the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law.

He also formed the production companies Warrior Poets and Morgan Spurlock Presents, which partnered with Hart Sharp Video in 2006 to distribute a collection of compelling non-fiction films that will be handpicked by Spurlock for release in theaters, TV or DVD.

A native of West Virginia and a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Spurlock recently received the West Virginia Ambassador Award and the West Virginia Filmmakers Pinnacle Award.
