Dr. Kimberly McConnell’s Personal and Academic Success course (SDEV 0370-024) is specific for VA students who served or are serving during Iraqi conflict times. On Tuesday, Nov. 11, they paid tribute to all Veterans, including reading aloud the poem, “In Flander’s Fields.” Guest speakers included Mr. Lonny C. Schule, Boy Scouts Special Forces Association, and Sergeant Major Tabitha Scrivens U.S. Army.
Retired Navy Senior Chief Javier Patron, Post Commander of the VFW Post 8541, presented Dr. McConnell with a certificate recognizing her efforts to further the aims and ideas of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Additionally, retired Marine Joe Alonso spoke about our nation’s military history. The class then participated in a belated Marine Corps birthday complete with cutting of the ceremonial cake, which Sergeant Major Scrivens cut, giving the first piece to the oldest Marine present, and the second to the youngest Marine present.
