More than 600 expected to attend
2009 Frontiers in Education International Conference
Oct. 18-21 on San Antonio River Walk

WHAT:
Frontiers in Education 2009:  “Imagining and Engineering Future Computer Science, Engineering, and Technology (CSET) Education,” one of only two major international engineering education conferences offered every year.

San Antonio College and Texas A&M University are the host institutions.

WHY:
The National Science Board has commended President Barack Obama for his “commitment to a globally competitive educational system.” They recommended we emphasize the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education.
This conference is helping higher education meet the nation’s need and ensure a highly qualified work force.

Exhibits – Oct. 19-20, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  
Awards – Oct. 19, 11:45 a.m.; Oct. 20, 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

ADD’L DETAILS:

More than 600 academic and industry representatives are expected. Participants will include university presidents, college deans, department chairpersons, faculty in engineering, engineering technology, and computer science, as well as industry leaders from throughout the country and the world.  

Exhibits will show cutting edge technology used for education. Exhibitors include: CleveMed (Cleveland Medical Devices), Cypress Semiconductor, National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA), National Instruments Corp. and EMA Design Automation.

Dr. David Tse, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences University of California Berkeley, will receive the Frederick Emmons Terman Award for    outstanding young electrical engineering educator.  Dr. Tse is the coauthor, with Pramod Viswanath, of the text "Fundamentals of Wireless Communication,” which has been used in over 60 institutions around the world.  The Terman Award, sponsored by the Hewlett-Packard Co., will be presented at 11:45 a.m.  Monday, Oct. 19, in the Salon del Rey at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio.

The opening night reception at La Villita Assembly Hall, 6:30-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, will feature a jazz ensemble from SAC and a local Mariachi band, Mariachi Azteca 90.

The American Society for Engineering Education   (ASEE) Award and the  
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Education Society Awards will be presented Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m.
