San Antonio College Professor to Travel to Mideast
This Summer for Fulbright-Hays Seminar Abroad

image of Carol Keller(San Antonio, TX, May 5, 2009)  – Carol A. Keller, Ph.D., Associate Professor of History at San Antonio College, is among 14 participants from 11 states selected to take part in the summer 2009 Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program, “Jordan and Oman: Middle East Neighbors.”

The Field Offices of America-Mideast Educational and Training Services, Inc. (AMIDEAST) in Oman and Jordan are organizing the program.  AMIDEAST is a private, nonprofit organization that strengthens mutual understanding and cooperation between Americans and the people of the Middle East and North Africa.

Keller said that from June 17 to July 25 the group will  spend two weeks in Oman and three weeks in Jordan.  Participants will meet with journalists, government officials, economists, activists, entrepreneurs, and educators. Additionally, each participant will spend at least one day with a family to learn first-hand about aspects of everyday life and culture.

Each participant is required to complete one curriculum project.  Keller’s curriculum project – “Mapping Jordan and Oman Across Time and Space” - will use historical and contemporary maps to create a Web-based mapping module. Keller also plans to maintain a blog to share with students and colleagues.

In 2004 Keller represented the Alamo Colleges as a delegate to the China-U.S. Conference on Community Colleges in Beijing; and in 2006 she was a Fulbright-Hays scholar in Argentina and Uruguay.  Keller is working with Carol Fimmen, International Programs Director, Alamo Colleges, to facilitate outreach activities in the greater San Antonio area.
