ADD’L DETAILS:
“Dreaming of the Majors” (Winepress Publishing) is O’Neal’s story as the only white man to play for two different Negro League baseball teams in two states. The book follows O’Neal from Little League in Arkansas to pitching for the San Antonio Black Sox in the 1970s. The book also explores his relationship with God and those people who touched his life.
“It is for all of us who didn’t make the dream,” O’Neal says. Despite being the only white player on the Black Sox, O’Neal said he never felt left out by his team. The former pitcher says the book was 15 years in the making.
Today, O’Neal is also a scout for Major League Baseball, a corporate training consultant, member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes executive board and the vice president of the South Texas Professional Baseball Negro League Player’s Association. He also teaches speech and business communications at SAC. He retired as a major after 20 years in the Air Force. |
