As part of the Edith Fox King lecture, Jones will discuss the newspaper’s uninterrupted coverage of Hurricane Ike in September 2008 using new media such as Twitter and the disaster’s aftermath on the Galveston area. Established in 1842, the Galveston County Daily News did not miss an issue during Hurricane Ike, the worst natural disaster to hit the area since the storm of 1900.

The Edith Fox King Lectures, which began in 1978, is named for Edith Fox King, who taught journalism at SAC and advised The Ranger student newspaper from 1958 to 1968.
