SAC Honors Students Win SAWS WaterSaver-Too
Award
|
| The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) recently presented a 2002 WaterSaver-Too
Award to the San Antonio College Beta Nu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa international
honors society. The award was made at SAWS Sixth Annual WaterSaver
Awards ceremony at the Westin RiverWalk Hotel. The awards recognize area businesses and institutions leading the way in water conservation, as reported on the SAWS web site, which added, This years winners represent over 100 million gallons in annual savings through water-conserving practices, education efforts, and innovative technologies. The students won the award for hosting a one-day interactive learning conference for SAISD honors students and their teachers. The First Annual Local Honors Institute, held in January 2001, focused on the importance of water from many different perspectives. The chapter also assembled a resource packet, funded by a grant from SAWS that featured water-related activities to coincide with various curricula. WaterSaver Award recipients were P&O Cold Logistics, City Public Service, USAA, North East Independent School District. WaterSaver-Too Award recipients were DoubleTree Hotel, Monarch Dental Associates, Hometex Corporation, Phi Theta Kappa of San Antonio College, Southside Independent School District, Charles and Bonnie Conner, and Graywater Recycling Inc. and Dr. Kelly Knape. According to Beta Nu President Holly Matthews, the Spring 2003 Honors Institute topic will be Dimensions and Directions of Health: Choices in the Maze. She said the chapter will work to educate our youth on healthy choices for living and preventing cancer.
