Discussion on Covering Terror at San
Antonio College
|
| How can a regional daily newspaper compete with radio, television, and
the Internet in covering an event the magnitude of the terrorist attack
on the twin towers in New York City? This question will be addressed by San Antonio Express-News journalists in a discussion titled Covering Terror at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19 in the Nail Technical Center, Room 025A. The public is invited to this free event. Journalists who will make presentations are columnist Cary Clack, reporter Macarena Hernandez, team editor Nora Lopez, and photojournalist William Luther. They will describe their individual contributions and the newspapers local and on-the-scene coverage of the Sept. 11 attacks and subsequent international, national, and local events, said Chet Hunt, chair of the Journalism-Photography Department at San Antonio College. He said the journalists will address how a newspaper can provide additional insight and information to the horrifying television images etched in readers minds and the sights and sounds of the tragedy communicated instantly by radio and television reporters and pundits. This event is sponsored by the campus chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Department of Journalism-Photography. The general public, college faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend. Faculty who wish to bring their classes should RSVP to ranger@accd.edu or 733-2870. |
