San Antonio College Radio-TV-Film Professor John Onderdonk and his student
Nathan Vorce will appear in Fresh Cut: New Masters of Media,
airing on KLRN-TV July 18 at 10 p.m., July 20 at
12 a.m., and July 23 at 3 a.m. The program, hosted by KMOL-TVs Randy
Beamer, will feature interviews with San Antonio student producers and
their teachers and screenings of their short video works.
The video Five-Fingered Tunes, a five-minute story without
words to be aired on the program, was originally produced by Vorce
and Adrian Gonzales for Onderdonks Field Production class at San
Antonio College.
Students in the class have to devise a story that they can tell
visually, without relying on dialogue to inform the audience of whats
happening, explained Onderdonk, who added, Theyre allowed
to use natural sound, music and sound effects, but no dialogue that will
further the story.
Other students and teachers featured in Fresh Cut are from
the Design and Technology Academy, East Central High School, North East
School of the Arts, Reagan High School, Say Sí (a community-based
arts program at Blue Star Arts Complex), and Youth Opportunity Program
(a collaboration of Alamo Workforce Development, Alamo Community College
District, San Antonio ISD, and Edgewood ISD).
It is gratifying to be able to showcase some of the outstanding
work being done by students and teachers in our community, said
CAM Messina, Fresh Cut producer and KLRN Director of Adult Learning Services.
He added, They are mastering a communication medium as fluid as
the future itself.
