Journalism Pulitzer Prize Winner Presents INS Lecture
|
| San Antonio College will present the 24th Annual Edith Fox King Lecture
featuring Brent Walth, a reporter from The Oregonian, at 11 a.m., Monday,
Nov. 19 at the McAllister Auditorium (corner of San Pedro Ave. & Courtland).
Walth and the staff of The Oregonian won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service last year for a series about problems in the Immigration and Naturalization Service. The lecture is free and open to the public. The prize was awarded for its detailed and unflinching examination of systematic problems within the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, including harsh treatment of foreign nationals and other widespread abuses, which prompted various reforms. The newspaper won another Pulitzer for a feature story. The Edith Fox King Lecture was named for a former journalism teacher who taught at San Antonio College from 1958-1968. She also was a leader in high school journalism and has a special teaching award named in her honor by the Interscholastic League Press Conference, a statewide journalism organization for middle and high school journalism students and teachers.
