Engraved Pavers Will Benefit Students & Beautify SAC Campus

The community is invited to participate in the College Community Connection Program by purchasing engraved brick pavers to be placed at the north entryway of McAllister Auditorium at San Antonio College. The program will offset some of the costs of renovating the auditorium entrance and also benefit community projects conducted by the college’s Beta Nu Chapter of the international student honors organization Phi Theta Kappa.

These projects include the Alamo Achievement Center Victory Garden (a hands-on vegetable garden to help troubled youth with activities related to nutrition and stewardship of land and water resources) and the Second Annual Local Honors Institute (a program for San Antonio ISD honors students with an emphasis on cultures and traditions).

“The entryway to McAllister Auditorium is a community focal point of the college, viewed by thousands of San Antonians throughout the year,” said Jeff Hunt, theater instructor and Beta Nu faculty advisor. He added that the pavers are an opportunity to memorialize individuals and pay tribute to organizations associated with the college and community.

Holly Matthews, Beta Nu president, said the college will work with Engravestone, the same company that handled the engraved bricks in front of the Majestic Theater, the Guenther Hotel, and Houston Street, and has projects throughout the country for schools, universities (including Georgia Tech, SMU, University of Texas at Austin), parks, municipal structures, churches, medical sites, and private institutions (including Ronald McDonald Houses, YMCA, Junior League, American Mensa).

Anyone interested may purchase two engraved lines (16 characters per line) on a small brick (4” x 8”) for $50 and on a large brick (8” x 8”) for $100, with a third line for $2 extra. Each individual, club or group participating will receive a certificate suitable for framing and a diagram noting the location of your brick paver.
