San Antonio College Women’s Center to sponsor
Domestic Violence Awareness Day on Oct. 18

The San Antonio College Women’s Center is sponsoring Domestic Violence Awareness Day on Thursday, Oct. 18 in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.

Resource information tables about domestic violence will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Loftin Center Fiesta Room.

Sylvia Esquivel from the San Antonio Police Department Victims Advocacy Unit will give a presentation on domestic violence and the Advocacy Unit from 10:50 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Moody Learning Center Room 177-178.

In addition, a live performance by the Intergenerational Dance Theater Group from The University of the Incarnate Word Drama Department will take place at noon in the Student Loftin Center.

Last year, a 12-week period in San Antonio was reported to have 2,140 cases of family assault, according to data collected from the San Antonio Police Department by the San Antonio Safe Family Coalition – an average of 178 family assaults per week or 24 family assaults per day.
