Black is Appointed Dean of Student Affairs at San Antonio College |

Dr. Joy Gates Black has been appointed Dean of Student Affairs at San
Antonio College, effective August 18. President Robert E. Zeigler made
the recommendation to the Alamo Community College District Board of Trustees,
who approved the appointment at their monthly meeting on June 17. |

| The Dayton, Texas, native sees the dean's role
"as a leader who champions the cause of student affairs," who
leads in strategy without micromanaging and assists and works collaboratively
with others. She was an instructor in Workforce Readiness Skills at Holyoke Street School and served as a Professional Seminar Leader as part of her master's project at Cambridge College. She was a consultant for Healthcare Association of Southern California and has contracted to provide expertise to facilitate the development of standardized emergency coding for hospitals. Black has served on the Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and the Springfield Public Schools Marketing Committee. She is a member of several professional associations, including the California Association on Postsecondary Education and Disability, the Association of Chief Human Resources Officers/Equal Employment Officers, Association of Pan African Doctoral Students, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She completed her basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and served in active duty in the U.S. Air Force and in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. She completed her undergraduate studies and her M.Ed. in an integrated studies program at Cambridge College and her Ed.D. in Education focusing on organizational leadership at Pepperdine University. |
