Dr. Joy Gates Black has been appointed Dean of Student Affairs at San Antonio College, effective August 18. President Robert E. Zeigler made the recommendation to the Alamo Community College District Board of Trustees, who approved the appointment at their monthly meeting on June 17.

"Dr. Black will be an outstanding addition to our administrative team," said Dr. Zeigler, who added, "She brings impressive experience in student affairs areas as well as superior recommendations from her colleagues."

Black is currently Dean of Equity and Diversity at Los Angeles City College, which has an enrollment of 17,095 students. Previously, she was Assistant Director of Operations for the University Student Union at California State University at Northridge, Assistant Vice President of Administrative Services at Los Angeles City College, Associate Dean of Admissions at University of Redlands, Whitehead College, Assistant Dean of Cambridge College in Cambridge, Mass., and Interim Executive Director of Holyoke Street School. She has worked on numerous college committees.

"I am most impressed with the energy and openness to different ways of doing things and different perspectives," said Black about the people at San Antonio College, who she said clearly see students as the college's top priority.
