SAC-Borders February Book Series Will
Cover Diverse Subjects

| San Antonio College is partnering with Borders Books and Music at the
Quarry to offer a diverse series of book presentations during the month
of February in the evenings free and open to the public. The books under
discussion will be available at each event. The presentations will cover
a wide range of topics, including obesity in children, the historical image
of Hispanic women, the post 9/11 world, the art of Goya and 16th Century
Turkish miniaturists. Faculty who will make book presentations are biology Associate Professor and registered dietician Ellen Brennan, M.S., R.D., L.D., English Professor Norma Cruz-Gonzales, political science Assistant Professor Dr. J. Philip Rogers, and visual arts Adjunct Professor Joan Fabian. All presentations are at 7 p.m. at Borders at the Quarry, second floor. The schedule follows: Tuesday, February 4: "Preventing Childhood Obesity," presented by Ellen Brennan. "Fat Kids: Raising Physically and Emotionally Strong Kids with Real Food," by Eileen Behen; "Raising Happy Healthy, Weight-wise Kids," by Judy Toews and Nicole Parton; "American Academy of Pediatrics Guide to Your Child's Nutrition," edited by William H. Dietz and Loraine Stern; and "The Volumetrics Weight Control Plan: Feel Full on Fewer Calories," by Barbara Rolls and Robert Narnett Thursday, February 13: "The Historical Perspective of the Hispanic Woman in the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries," presented by Norma Cruz-Gonzales "Fire Lilies," by Cynthia Leal Massey Tuesday, February 18: "Post 9-11 World: A Clash of Civilizations," presented by Philip Rogers "The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order," by Samuel Huntington. Tuesday, February 25: "Behind the Scenes in the East and West Painting: Understanding the lives and stories behind artists through recent books about artists and the medium of painting," presented by Joan Fabian "Old Man Goya," by Julia Blackburn and "My Name is Red," by Orhan Pamuk.
