SAC Supports Deaf & Hard of Hearing
Awareness Day at Fiesta Texas

On Saturday, June 14, faculty, staff, and some graduates of the San Antonio College Department of American Sign Language Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services will be part of a team of approximately 90 interpreters to provide interpreting services at Fiesta Texas.

"Many in the deaf community will come from all over Texas for the day, including some from the School for the Deaf in Austin and many other sites," said Lauri Metcalf, Department Chairperson.
She added that last year because of deaf awareness day, a family came from Beeville to Fiesta Texas for the first time. "It is a service to the deaf community, giving them a chance to see shows that are captioned and also to see deaf people," said Metcalf.

All Alamo Community College District faculty, staff, and students can receive a special discounted admission of $20.49 (including tax) that day while also supporting the department. They can pick up the discount by visiting the San Antonio College table outside the front gate.

For more information, check the ASL/Interpreter Training web site at accd.edu/sac/aslait/aslaitp.htm, or call Metcalf at 733-2071.
