SAC Folk Dance Festival Will Feature International Dance Talent

 
The 44th Annual San Antonio College Folk Dance Festival, the largest festival of its kind in the Southwest, will be held Saturday, March 8 at 8 p.m. in McAllister Auditorium

The Folk Dance Festival, sponsored by the San Antonio College Alumni Association, will feature groups from New Orleans, Houston, Baton Rouge, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas performing dances from the United States, Mexico, Spain, Scotland, Hungary, and Russia. 

The following schedule outlines the entire weekend of folk dance events:
Friday, March 7 (Candler Physical Education Center):
8 p.m. - Registration and warm-up dancing
8:30 p.m. - Mihai David, Romanian dance
9:30 p.m. - Request dancing
Evening dance with guest teachers: Vonnie Brown, Andor Czompo, Jimmy Drury, George Fogg, Stew Shacklette, and Conny Taylor.
Saturday, March 8:
San Antonio College Dance Studio:
9 a.m. - George Fogg, English Country Dance
10 a.m. - Enrique Ramon, Latin Dance (Salsa)
11 a.m. - Break
11:15 a.m. - Mihai David, Romanian Dance
12:30 p.m. - Lunch
2 p.m. - Mihai David, Romanian Dance
3:15 p.m. - Dick Crum, Culture Corner
4:15 p.m. - Request Dancing
8 p.m. - Folk Dance Concert (McAllister Auditorium)
10:15 p.m. - Folk Dancing (Candler Physical Education Center)
Sunday, March 9:
International Folk Culture center, Out Lady of the Lake University:
10 a.m. - 12 p.m. - Review of Dances
12 p.m. - Lunch
2 - 5 p.m. - English and Contra Dance
Tickets are $10 adults, $8 seniors, and $5 children, with Alamo Community College District students, faculty and staff free. The cost for the entire weekend of activities is $50. For more information, call Nelda Drury at 210-342-2905.
