SAC Waives Prerequisites for Teachers for Two Art Courses in Summer I

The San Antonio College Visual Arts & Technology Department will waive prerequisites for K-12 and college teachers, including any interested Alamo Community College District faculty, staff and students, during the Summer I Session for two courses: Basic Animation (ARTC 1301) and Web Page Design I (IMED 1316).

"High school teachers have said they appreciate the opportunity to take classes during the summer when they are off," said Nancy Wood, Assistant Professor of Graphic Arts. She added that most of those teachers used the skills they learned to create Web sites for their classes.

Basic Animation meets Monday-Friday, 7-10:10 a.m. It is a hands-on course in 20 animation principles and techniques, using FlashMX and AfterEffects. Projects include motion typography, rotoscoping, storyboarding, character animation, and web animation and can be adapted to the student's interests. The history and aesthetics of animation are also covered.

Web Page Design I meets Monday-Friday, 10:20 a.m.-1:30 p.m. This hands-on course in beginning Web page design uses HTML, Dreamweaver, image-slicing, and Flash. Design concepts are covered that will help students create an effective Web site: composition, color, typography, navigation, images, and animation. Students will create a functioning Web site and place it on the Internet during the class.

To ensure degree plan students have space in the class, teachers will be allowed to enroll after May 10. Registration for the Summer I Session continues through May 24, and classes meet June 2-July 8.

ACCD employees are eligible for the Employee Tuition Assistance Program. For more information about enrollment, call 733-2894, or for additional information about the classes contact Wood at nwood@accd.edu or 733-2902.
