The San Antonio College Women’s Center is accepting applications for scholarships that will be awarded at the upcoming Women Empowered (WE) Conference. Scholarships will be awarded in the amounts of $250, $500 and $1,000.

To be eligible, women applicants must have a high school diploma or GED; be attending college for the first time and have been out of school for more than five years; enroll in three or more courses at San Antonio College during the Fall 2003 semester; write a 300-word essay answering the questions: "What fears will you need to overcome to go to college and how will this scholarship help you overcome those fears and reach your dreams?" Scholarship winners must also be available to attend the WE Conference. The scholarship deadline is Friday, May 9.

The WE Conference is free and open to all women interested in returning to school. Motivational workshops addressing overcoming fears and gaining confidence will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20. The conference will be held at McCreless Auditorium (near Belknap and W. Dewey Streets).

Scholarships are provided by H-E-B, the City of San Antonio, and the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women. The conference is sponsored by the SAC WINS (Women Investing in New Successes) Leadership Program.
