SAC to Host World History Association of Texas Spring Conference

The public is invited to attend the World History Association of Texas spring conference April 12, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at San Antonio College. The conference theme is "World History in Texas: New Horizons," and participants will explore issues concerning the discipline in Texas.

Keynote speaker George Rislov, Social Studies Coordinator for the Texas Education Agency, will discuss "The State of the World in the State of Texas."

According to coordinator Jonathan Lee, San Antonio College history professor, panels will include an assessment of current Teacher Preparation, the new AP World History course, a student panel on learning world history, and the linkages between world history and world geography.

Lee also noted that additional sessions will explore world history theory and the intersection of Indian Ocean, Latin American, and United States history with World History.

Registration is $15 if paid before April 1 and $18 after April 1, which includes a one-year membership to the World History Association of Texas. The student fee is $8, and all students are welcome. A lunch buffet costs an additional $10, and coffee and refreshments are included in the registration fee.

To register, contact Jonathan Lee at jlee@accd.edu or 210-733-2565, or check the web site at www.accd.edu/sac/history/history/WHATind.htm.
