More than $140,000 in Scholarships Available to HS Seniors,
Applications due Jan. 31

The San Antonio College Women's Center invites high school seniors to apply for scholarships to be awarded at the 2003 Young Women's/Young Men's Conference on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the McAllister Auditorium.  More than $140,000 in scholarships will be given away-the largest amount since the conference began in 1984.

To be eligible for a scholarship, current high school seniors must plan to enroll full-time during the Fall 2003 semester at any college in the Alamo Community College District (San Antonio College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip's College, Northwest Vista College).

Students should submit an application, transcript, and essay based on the conference theme, "If You Can Dream It, You Can Be It" by the deadline on Friday, Jan. 31. Applications are available from high school counselors and the SAC Women's Center & Adult Re-Entry Program.

The Young Women's/Young Men's Conference is open to 11th & 12th grade students for a day of information focusing on self-esteem and leadership development. The conference also will provide information on career and educational options, and present positive role models to offer messages of hope and encouragement.

More than 539 students, parents and counselors from 41 San Antonio and surrounding area high schools and community agencies attended last year's conference. Seventy-two percent of the seniors who attended the conference were enrolled in an ACCD college by Fall 2002.

For a scholarship application or more information about the conference, contact the SAC Women's Center & Adult Re-Entry Program at (210) 733-2299.
