The San Antonio College Department of Theatre and
Communications will present the comedy "Anton in Show Business,"
by Jane Martin, in McCreless Theatre on April 2-3, 8-10, and 15-17
at 8 p.m. and on April 18 at 2:30 p.m. The play, which won the 2001
American Theatre Critic's Association/Steinberg New Play Award,
will be the department's final production of the 2003-2004 season.
"The story revolves around a group of actors, director and
producers attempting to produce the classic Russian masterpiece
"Three Sisters," by Anton Chekhov, in San Antonio,"
said director Paula Rodriguez, a new faculty member. She added that
an all-female cast plays both female and male roles, adding to the
hilarity.
The struggling actors in the play include Lisabette, an ingénue
from La Vernia, Casey, a hardened but passionate New York City actress,
and Holly, a Hollywood starlet. "Life begins to imitate art
as the actors live, love and lose throughout the course of their
ill-fated production," said Rodriguez.
A special performance on April 9 includes a Post Show Talk back
session with actors and directors, with all ticket proceeds from
that performance going towards the Breast Cancer Foundation.
Admission will be free with ACCD ID card or $10 for adults, and
$8 for seniors and non-ACCD students.
