San Antonio College will
host "An Evening of Dance with Bertram Weston" Saturday,
Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Fiesta Room of the Loftin Student Center.
He will also appear at 2 p.m. that day at Borders Books and Music
at the Quarry (225 Basse Rd.) for the monthly American Sign Language
Storytelling, with a voice interpreter present.
"Bertram Weston is a strong, proud Deaf American whose first
language is American Sign Language," said Sara Filippone, Lab
Technician for the Interpreter Training Program. She added, "He
performs using music, dance, and sign language. This is a very powerful
performance."
Weston states on his website at http://www.bertramweston.com/index.html,
"My goal is to be an influence to break down society's barriers
to remove the stigmas and open the minds of individuals to open
the world to all people . . . What I express in my performances
inspires children of all ages to believe in themselves and aspire
to achieve all that they can!"
He is a graduate of Gallaudet University, where he performed with
the Gallaudet Dance Company and the Wild Zappers Troupe.
Tickets for the 6 p.m. evening performance (available at the door
or at the Nail Technical Center, room 005A) are $3 for children
