San Antonio College held an Open House at 10:30 a.m. today for
a new Continuing Education Annex at 309 W. Dewey St., which will
provide classroom space for more than 300 students and accommodate
the college's growing Continuing Education program.
"These students have had to rotate among three classrooms within
a single session," said Ruben Torres, Dean of the Continuing
Education Training Network. "The new annex makes it possible
for us to train these students without moving from classroom to
classroom."
Comprised of two temporary buildings, with ramps for accessibility,
the CE Annex will provide classrooms for 150 former Levi employees
attending San Antonio College to retrain for jobs as Pharmacy Technicians,
Office Assistants, and Certified Microsoft Office Specialists. Some
of these students are also preparing for the GED certificate or
are improving their English-speaking abilities for technical training
to follow later.
Other Continuing Education programs scheduled to use the annex include
the Alternative Teacher Certification program, with more than 100
students pursuing certification in Math and Science, and the Real
Estate Inspectors Program, a 188-hour program recognized by the
Texas Real Estate Commission and in high demand for people in home
construction, real estate sales, property management and related
fields.
